Helensvale Station multi-storey carpark

Helensvale Station is the public transport gateway to the Gold Coast. It’s the only place in Australia with heavy rail, light rail, buses, cars, electric vehicle charging stations and all next to a major shopping centre. For years people have been forced to park on the grass along Country Club Drive (now Buckler Dr), the Council fine for doing that is $157.

I first raised it in Parliament soon after I got elected. Nothing has been done by the current government. We’re hoping to change that after the next election. The LNP have committed $30 million to building a multi-level carpark which adds 450 car spaces and creates 90 jobs during construction. This is a huge step for locals, letting more people use the tram around the GC and helping daily Brisbane commuters. Importantly, increased public transport reduces emissions and helps our environment too.

The Harbour Town Intersection Upgrade

The Harbour Town Intersection has been neglected for too long and after raising it in my very first Parliamentary Speech, we’re finally seeing some real action being taken to resolve it.

After working closely with our local Federal MP, Stuart Robert, I’ve secured $10 million in funding from the federal government, meaning that construction has already begun on this much needed upgrade!

Pine Ridge Road / Captain Cook Drive and Brisbane Road intersection

The Pine Ridge Rd / Captain Cook Dr and Brisbane Rd intersection is the next big infrastructure upgrade we need in our area. The Council has allocated planning money this financial year with the $5.2 million needed for the construction work not coming until next financial year. Brisbane Rd however is a State road, and we need the state government to come to the table and cover some of the cost of the upgrade if we’re going to be successful.

I’ve been assessing traffic data and raising the question with the current Transport Minister and I will continue to do so until we see some real commitments from the State government to join forces with our local council and get the work done.

The Coomera Connector (Second M1)

The LNP committed to building a Second M1 way back in 2017, and I’ve been campaigning for it ever since. We didn’t win the 2017 election and since then Labor haven’t even started construction on the road. This is a vital upgraded needed to bust congestion in our area and ease the pressure on the existing M1.

I’ve discovered a huge issue with Labor’s existing plan for the Second M1 – a complete lack of sound barriers and noise protection through the Surrounds and Arundel Springs section of the road. The road will be coming well within 200m of these houses and I will not stop fighting until sufficient sound barriers are in place to protect the peace and privacy of our locals.

In October 2020 the Morrison Federal Government announced their Budget will deliver the $750 million needed to build it right. If we’re elected to government, we’ll start work within our first 6 months.
